  • Just in my humble opinion, from a business perspective: Renders with only "titillation" value in regards to nudity should be "avoided." Tasteful nudity renders or, perhaps, renders of a technical nature would be fine. Hardcore porn should, IMO, not be acceptable. Not that I have anything against it, mind you, but this is more a general user and technical forum and SM may have certain concerns in that area that we may not wish to irritate. (IOW - It tends to drive certain users away and invites participation that SM may not wish to court.) I have no sensibilities left to be damaged, so I have no personal dog in this fight. The almighty $, however, often dictates such standards including those driven by Teh Intrawebz "family" interests. (And, goodness help those who have kids with unsupervised interwebz access...)

Note: The above suggestion would even include /filtered or protected uploaded content, IMO. I know it's a bit controversial and people can be quick to be offended by the mere suggestion of some sort of filtering/censorship, but it's just a business reality, that's all.

  • Every style of entertainment has its time and place... and apparently also culture, and when it comes to corporate business culture, somehow the daily slog of natural erotic emotions has been omitted (even if its the most profitable form of business). My acceptance of this is merely in suspension, purely to grant myself some peace of mind, because when it comes down to it, I cannot handle the blatant hypocrisy at all. Erotica merely gets its devious status because some monk one day decided it was unnatural. I hope he burns in hell forever :D bla bla bla...

But lol I merely wanted to share some awesome Superfly pics with naked girls swimming through a volumetrically lit underwater scene. I'm quite proud of it! I have no problem with nudity restrictions, in fact I'm surprised that SM even wanna bother with this plugin. I actually find it quite mature of them.

and the world is a better place now! :D :D

(make sure your kids aren't behind you when you check DA notifications now, though :D lol )

While I'd agree with you concerning how it has been considered "prurient" and even "deviant" in some cultures in regards simply to "sex", "erotica" itself gets its gravitas and concern due to its evocative nature. It evokes something that could be, at certain times, undesirable to the people exposed to it. Consider it like a picture of car-crash victim's mangled body which would, for most people, "evoke" revulsion and dismay. Any of these sorts of things that usually evoke deep, often instinctive, responses in people always have some form of social/cultural restrictions placed upon them. (Everything from music to eating one's lunch while sitting in on a formal board meeting... :) One wouldn't masturbate in a board meeting, even though, privately, it's generally regarded as normal sexual behavior in most cultures, right? )

Traditional "Western" culture does have a more extended list of "taboos" and regional differences regarding the subject of sex that has, however, been heavily influenced by certain strongly conservative opinions/traditions. So, I do agree with you on that count, most certainly. Differences between some European and American television commercials could also be examples that would support differences between broad "Western" (European, West/Central/South, in general) cultural attitudes and the more "Puritan-based" American cultural traditions.

(Sorry for the depth of the post. I've always found certain cultural differences and the basis for them fairly fascinating. :) )

To remain on-topic! - Whatever SM decides is fine with me. There are some threads that deal more in-depth on the specific subject in the Comments and Feedback section - https://forum.smithmicro.com/category/4/comments-feedback
