Can I make grass in Poser with a Displacement map?
-
I'm thinking I can, but thought I'd ask first since there are people here who probably already know. Just so you know, I'm not thinking of a wild forest or field. I'm thinking more of fresh mown grass like a yard or golf course.

with the firefly render, yes. with the superfly render, no. Here's a link to bagginsbill's texture on this. https://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2633877
It doesn't work with superfly because it doesn't do micro displacement and subdividing that small is near impossible.

You could also use the hair room if you really needed. This quick pic shows the high-res cloth plane with hair room grass rendered in Superfly.
This pic shows the hair settings I used (my Poser units are set to inches).

If you read the first post in Redphantom's thread link you'll notice BB has used the hair room as well. It works well enough on Superfly, but I want micropolygon displacement back!
-
@piersyf If that's for me then yes, I saw and was just pointing out that for a small lawn then the hair room could work sufficiently if needed in Superfly.
If not, ignore me and carry on (although I am waiting for Cycles micropoly displacement too!) :)

The hair room is an option for Poser yes, but not for DS if I decide to port this lawn prop I'm making over.

@eclark1849
Hi Earl,
Long time ago I made a demo of a figure walking through long and high grass at renderosity, using inverted coned attached to the shins to "displace/disturb" the grass after the walk.
Walking through high grassHave fun using the Poser tools.

This was the final result :

Oh no, Superfly is doing its tricks again!~
It added a big black circle in a random position in the scene!
Someone write a bug report to Smith Micro - no random black circles!
