background image size
-
Can someone please help me with this. Every time I import a background image it ends up only filling 3/4 screen either vertically
or horizontaly.
Ha ve tried changing the picture size by adjusting pixel sizes. Pretty much tried everything really. Is there a setting in poser to set the size of the import background image. Like Is aid I follow all instructions and still I get this.
Any help would be appreciated.

@wallace11 Have you tried using a skydome/envirospher?
That will fill the entire background, light the scene with indirect light that will look very realistic and will give you something for reflections to reflect back.
-
@wallace11 here is an example
-
@wallace11 A background image is just that in Poser. An image pasted on an invisible background in Poser. You can resize the window to match the image, but not the image to match the background. Think of it as putting a poster on a wall in your room and standing in front of it. You can narrow your field of view in the camera, but you can't make the poster any bigger. Now, that said, your options are to put together an actual scene, put your figure in it, and light the scene. Or you can also do as ghost ship suggests and use an HDR image as both your background scene and lighting source.

I am new to all this. Is that a type of image I can download., or software.

@wallace11 HDR is a High definition Range Image that can be used as a light source inside some programs like Poser. They are plentiful on the internet and often free for downloading. If you'd like to take a look at a few you can visit my Poser Content directory here .

@wallace11 download the envirosphere here

@eclark1849 said in background image size:

definitionRange Image that can be used as a light source inside some programs like Poser.High Dynamic Range. In electronic reproduction (whether of sound or images), dynamics is a word referring to the ability of the medium to reproduce both very high and very low signals. HDR TVs are new and most people don't have them.
The word definition (e.g. the D in high definition TV or HDTV) refers to lots of pixels in a smaller space.

All the instructions to not use a background image notwithstanding, here's how I use a background image.
Load the image onto a rectangle prop (such as the Poser primitive one-sided square). Scale the prop as you see fit to achieve whatever height and width you desire.
Position the prop behind your subject(s).
-
The prop can be set something like this:
-
Adjust your camera to frame your subject and choose whatever render dimension you like.
Then move/scale the prop to place the background in the frame as you like.
-
Invariably, the newcomer's next question is how do I prevent shadows on the background prop?
Here's how - connect it to the Ambient_Color, set to white.
You have the added benefit of being able to control the background brightness using the Ambient_Value parameter.
Be sure to set Diffuse_Value and Specular_Value to 0!!
-
In FireFly you may ask why your background is blurry.
Texture Filtering has a lot to do with it. This is a complex topic but the beginner's answer is choose "Crisp".
-
Those who are more sophisticated may note that my figure is lit from the front but, in the background image, the sun is behind the figure.
Well - yeah - you have to think about these things.
-
Oops. Having moved the sun to the back, now the background prop is actually casting its own shadow onto my subject.
-
Turn off the "Cast shadows" in Properties for the background prop.
-
ghostship, So how do I set up and use the envirosphere. I downloaded from the link you sent.
Thanks

@wallace11 It's a prop. You load it from your prop's library and set up it's material settings like I show up the thread. It is a giant sphere that surrounds your whole scene and with it set to ambient it will glow and light up everything within it. You'll want to delete the default lights as well as they will be redundant. The scene will be black and you won't be able to see anything so you'll want a light setup that lights up the scene while you are working but does not affect the render. I have a free light set that has a preset that does this.

Don't know if you've tried, but there is also a check box on the image node called Auto-Fit. You could always try ticking it to see if that helps also.
I use the prop solution suggested myself too, but the checkbox could be a quick fix if all you want is a background..

Auto_Fit has not functioned correctly for a long time.
