How Can You Refresh Textures In Poser When Editing In Paint Programs?
-
Ok, so the title sounds a bit complicated, let me see if I can sort it out. Poser used to have a way to update textures in real time, but Poser 11 will not do this and I can't seem to figure out a way to do it.
This is what I used to do:
Open up a texture file in a paint program (Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, etc) and make a change to it, I save it and load it onto a figure in Poser in the mats lab (say, Skin Torso).
I see it on the figure and see something I don't like, I go back into the paint program and make adjustments that I need and then save it again.
I then go and select another random texture map (like Skin Head) then I would switch back to Skin Torso. Poser would reload the newest saved version of that texture and show it with the changes I had made. This is especially helpful with seam work.
Poser11 does not allow me to do this, if I want to see changes I make to a texture when it's on the figure, I have to close the entire program, restart it and reload the figure with the texture I made the changes to.
Is there some way to make this work or maybe some option I'm just not seeing? I would be very curious to know.

@cujoe_da_man I've never had a problem with this in P11 Pro. The texture preview doesn't update but when I render the texture is updated.
-
Yeah, I can get it to change in a render, but then I have to sit there and wait for it to render, even a quick render is a lot slower than just seeing it update really fast so I don't have to stop working between both programs. Also, the texture "reverts" back to the original texture in the preview, so I can't move the figure around to see other areas without doing even more renders.
-
@cujoe_da_man I've actually never experienced the previews updating. Even in PP2014 they don't update in real time. You have to save the file, close and re-open the file for it to update the previews in the Mat room.

Try reload textures under the texture menu. It's not instant but it will show the changes and is faster than a render.

Menue -> Render -> Reload Textures will most often do the trick.
Does that feature not work in P11?

Does that feature not work in P11?It does work, I completely forgot that was even there. Got so used to doing it the way I posted above in P7 that I never actually used that. Yeah, it's a bit slow, but it is much faster than doing a render. Now if only they would put a button on the GUI so I don't have to menu hop :P

If you are as impatient as me to wait for all the textures to reload, just load a random texture on the body part you wish to update, and then load back the texture map you need.

Eh, instant gratification isn't fast enough for me... hehe.
For some reason, that doesn't work for me, 'cause Poser seems to store the texture in a cache of some kind, so even if I did just what you said there, it still shows the original when I switch back to the updated texture.
If I understand how Poser works, they load all the textures when you load your figure and then it saves those images to a temporary cache of sorts, this way you don't have to constantly reload textures over and over again. So, unless I changed the location of the texture file, the program automatically assumes everything is the same. I would also assume that's why they put in the "reload textures" option because it clears that cache.
I would attribute it to how you clear your browser cache/history. Commonly used website images are stored on your hard drive so you don't have to reload the entire page from scratch. Makes it faster that way.

Yes, very much yes! I never noticed that little button there, already remapped the 'reload textures' to a hotkey, that'll at least get me the ability to reload textures. I still preferred it when I could just swap back and forth between the figure's texture zones, but this will be good enough for me :D

@cujoe_da_man
It might be a P11 thing then... I'm stil stuck on Poser 10
-
@krios Yeah, I really miss being able to do it my old way, but P11 has hotkeys you can map, so that pretty much solves my issue :D
