Bug When Viewing Forum With Pagination (As Opposed To Loathsome Scroll)

  • Odd behaviour if you've got the "Paginate topics and posts instead of using infinite scroll" option checked. If you hover over a page number at the bottom of the screen it shows (FF59.0) the URL it'll go to...

Click on the page number and indeed it goes to the link- 'https://forum.smithmicro.com/category/9/poser?page=2' in the example. But hang on a few seconds... the page number in the URL changes, and it goes to a different page, 'https://forum.smithmicro.com/category/9/poser?page=1' in the example. Well, at least it was doing this every time I clicked the page '2' link, until I decided to post about it just now. Luckily it's decided today that whatever page I click on it'll redirect to page 2 after a few seconds...

NO !! I'm not changing back to that godforsaken loathsome infinite scroll crap ! :o)

  • I've had that too. If you type the proper page number into the address bar, it will stay on that page.

  • I can think it's a problem of your browser, I'm using Chrome and the pages are displayed and functioning correctly when I click on one of them.

  • I've not seen this happen, and I'm using FF59.0.1 on Win7 Pro. That said, however, I'm using the Dark Mode add-on so I don't go snow blind when on this forum, though I don't know if that would have an affect on which page I would be directed to when clicking on the page numbers at the bottom.

Since this is a new thread, there's no other pages but this one, but I'll be watching for this on older/longer threads, and will report back if I run into the same issue.

Edited to Add: OK, I just tried this out on Boni's Light Splitting thread, as there are 4 pages, and I'm not seeing this happen at all. I'll keep watching to see if it does happen elsewhere.

  • @Miss-B It doesn't seem to happen with multi-page threads, just the Poser Forum itself (i.e. URL https://forum.smithmicro.com/category/9/poser, or https://forum.smithmicro.com/category/9/poser?page=1, etc )

@redphantom Yep, I manually correct the page number in the URL too.

@fonpaolo Could be. Mozilla's FF 'Quantum' seems to be a quantum leap backwards to me...

  • @3dcheapskate Well... to make things easier for the users, the programs are becoming increasingly heavier.
I don't know... but, perhaps, with all those lines of code, something has gone wrong.

This seems a trend nowadays... FF... Windows... Poser... lol.

AHA! OK, I misunderstood what you were referring to. Now that I just tried the link you provided, yes, I'm seeing the same issue, and it scrolls down to some random thread on that first page. The scrolling has been an issue, because when I was still using one of the forum's dark themes, prior to installing the Dark Mode add-on, it would highlight a random thread, and I never understood why it was doing that. With the default white theme, the highlighting wouldn't be noticeable, nor is it with the Dark Mode add-on.

  • @3dcheapskate Sorry, I'm a bit slow today... now that I read your post again, and what Miss B said, the fault isn't in your FF, but in the Poser forum.

edit - I was trying to follow the discussions in this forum using RSS Feeds, however I experienced a lot of problems, from invalid dates of replies, to multiple errors here and there, causing nothing to display...

  • It now looks as if the first page link at the bottom that you click on works okay, but after than any page link you click on (after initially going to the correct page for a few seconds) goes to the first page link you clicked on.
