Planted Keys in Poser?

  • New to Poser (coming from character animation in 3dsMax and Houdini).
Is there a way to lock a hand in place for a few frames then unlock it?

Say a character is climbing a wall- hand reaches up, grasps a rock, then after a few frames the lock is released?

In Max's built in biped system it's called setting planted keys. Is that something Poser can do? Effectively switching between IK off/on states on the fly?

    Thanks!

  • You can this by using constraints. With the Arms having IK turned on what you do is create a constraint object (at least two per hand) and place them. When you turn the constraint value up to 100 then the hand will move fully to the object. As you move the body up start to increase the value of the next constraint as you lower the first one. This will have the effect of the hand moving between them. Once you have the second constraint at 100 you can then move the first one even higher up and continue the climb.

You can easily create, enable and disable IK chains in poser, not only for hands and feet (which the toons come with by default) but also for other body parts, like the head or the end of the tail.
